Top-level domain (or just TLD) is the name of your site, so to speak.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To use an earlier example, in the URL &#8220;fiquerico.com.br&#8221; the TLD is &#8220;fiquerico.&#8221; In this blog, the TLD is \u201ccontent marketing.\u201d There is no doubt that the top-level domain, which we will refer to as the domain from now on, is the most important part of the URL.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>is responsible for effectively communicating your company&#8217;s message in a nutshell<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> . The domain is usually composed of the company name, but it can also be a campaign-based catchphrase.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, MRV recently ran a facilitated funding campaign in which it created the website &#8220;euodeiopagaraluguel.com.br.&#8221; The domain is all about the campaign proposal, even though it doesn&#8217;t speak directly about the brand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s also worth noting that trends in top-level domains have shifted a bit over recent years. You\u2019ll spot all sorts of creative TLDs out there\u2014\u201c.io,\u201d \u201c.tech,\u201d and even \u201c.pizza\u201d for those really committed to the bit. While they can give your project a distinct vibe or help you snag a short name, it\u2019s still good to weigh how seriously people will take a less conventional extension. Some folks might see \u201c.com\u201d and feel a bit more at ease, but these newer options are gradually becoming mainstream, especially among startups and personal brands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People sometimes obsess over locking in a .com as if nothing else will ever do the job. But with more crowded markets, creative alternatives are perfectly valid. Just make sure the name and extension together say something clear about what you\u2019re doing\u2014or are at least easy for someone to read and recall. The web\u2019s changed a lot, and honestly, users have as well. Long story short: don\u2019t panic if your perfect .com was taken sometime around 2012; there\u2019s probably something workable if you\u2019re willing to get a little inventive.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Second-level domain<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second-level domain is more popularly known as extension. It&#8217;s the &#8220;.com.&#8221; &#8220;.Com.br,&#8221; \u201c.Edu,\u201d,\u201c.Gov,\u201d and so on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This part is also often ignored, but it makes a difference. Extensions <\/span><b>are designed to target sites by purpose and region<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but today are even used to compose company names.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The extension \u201c.com\u201d is for business addresses, \u201c.org\u201d for non-profit organizations, \u201c.edu\u201d is for educational institutions, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Domains with \u201c.br\u201d (.com.br, .gov.br, .ind.br) are related to Brazil, just as a \u201c.us\u201d domain is from the USA, \u201c.ca\u201d is from Canada, \u201c.de\u201d is from Germany and so on.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Subdirectory<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally comes the subdirectory, which represents the internal pages of your site.
