This is a new way that Walmart has found to reach its shoppers, connecting especially with its younger audience.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wBqkCvW5NRY\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Walmart Land delivers beauty, fashion and style content directly to the global Roblox community, with over 52 million daily users, and debuts with three great experiences \u2013 Electric Island, House of Style and Electric Fest.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Electric Island was inspired by the biggest music festivals in the world where users can participate in dance challenges and venture into a DJ booth. But honestly, this is Walmart reading the room and showing up where the next generation already spends its time. It\u2019s not just about \u201cselling\u201d anymore; it\u2019s a kind of brand building that lives and breathes in digital hangouts, and honestly, they\u2019re not the only ones eyeing this turf.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a bit of a curveball for those who grew up with Walmart as a grocery-and-hoodie destination, right? When a company this size experiments on Roblox, it signals a broader shift\u2014one where customer loyalty isn\u2019t just about low prices, but about shared digital experiences. What\u2019s tricky is whether this kind of playfulness will lead to real-world spending or just become another fleeting internet fad (and, let\u2019s be real, there are plenty of those piling up lately). Still, it\u2019s fun to see a legacy brand try its hand at basically being \u201ccool\u201d online.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re showing up in a big way &#8211; creating community, content, entertainment and games through the launch of Walmart Land and the Walmart Universe of Play, and we know our customers spend a lot of time there. So, we&#8217;re focusing on creating new and innovative experiences that excite them, something we are already doing in the communities where they live, and now, in the virtual worlds where they play,&#8221; said William White, Director of Marketing at Walmart US with recent news about the company&#8217;s new bet.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other companies are also turning to the metaverse for prominence<\/h2>\n<p>Walmart has taken a very important step towards turning the metaverse into an increasingly popular channel of commerce. In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accenture.com\/br-pt\/insights\/technology\/technology-trends-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">research<\/a> released by Accenture, it showed that consumers&#8217; interest in shopping in the metaverse may be greater than you think.<\/p>\n<p>According to Jill Standish, Senior Managing Director and Global Head of Retail at Accenture group: \u201cThe era of the metaverse has begun, and for consumer-facing companies, it&#8217;s not about deciding whether to enter the metaverse, but deciding how\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, brands will need to reimagine and experience what these new <a href=\"https:\/\/pingback.com\/en\/resources\/interactive-content-statistics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interactive experiences<\/a> can mean for consumers. As is the case with other famous brands that have already launched their experiences or virtual showcases on Roblox, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chainstoreage.com\/chipotle-debuts-menu-item-metaverse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chipotle<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chainstoreage.com\/american-eagle-turns-music-metaverse-back-school-promo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">American Eagle<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/chainstoreage.com\/dicks-sporting-goods-goes-back-school-roblox\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dick&#8217;s Sporting Goods<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chainstoreage.com\/pacsun-lets-customers-open-metaverse-shops-popular-gaming-platform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pacsun<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As is the case with other famous brands and artists who have come out ahead and have already launched their experiences or virtual showcases on Metaverso, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meioemensagem.com.br\/home\/marketing\/2022\/07\/27\/por-que-a-boca-rosa-decidiu-entrar-no-metaverso.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Boca Rosa Company<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/pingback.com\/br\/resources\/anitta-marketing-digital\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Anitta<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Metaverse: is it worth it?<\/h2>\n<p>Even with these global initiatives, the Metaverse is still a somewhat distant reality for most of the population. There may be some early adopters, especially tech lovers and <a href=\"https:\/\/pingback.com\/en\/resources\/gen-z-traditional-marketing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gen Z<\/a>, but it&#8217;s still a long way to go towards general acceptance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We saw, for example, Meta\u2019s (a.k.a. Facebook company) owner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/how-mark-zuckerberg-has-lost-71-billion-in-2022-so-far\/435678\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mark Zuckerberg lost more than a half of his personal wealth<\/a> this month\u2014and part of that because the company is investing <em>a lot <\/em>in the metaverse, and people are <em>still <\/em>not quite buying it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A former Google CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/pingback.com\/en\/resources\/metaverse-an-undefined-concept\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said recently<\/a> that we still don\u2019t know what metaverse is\u2014and searches prove it: 60% of respondents in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.momentive.ai\/en\/blog\/axios-whats-next-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an Axios survey<\/a> are not familiar with the idea of metaverse.<\/p>\n<p>But we sure can\u2019t ignore a trend here: whether in the metaverse or not, consumers (especially the young ones) are seeking for more interaction, interactivity, and gamification.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not a coincidence that brands like <a href=\"https:\/\/pingback.com\/en\/resources\/netflix-epic-games-diverse-content\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Netflix<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/pingback.com\/en\/resources\/spotify-video-and-games\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spotify<\/a> are betting on games. Apple launched its iPhone 14 on an <a href=\"https:\/\/pingback.com\/en\/resources\/apple-interactive-content\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interactive landing page<\/a>. That several brands are testing <a href=\"https:\/\/pingback.com\/en\/resources\/brands-on-twitch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">strategies on Twitch<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And sure, with this initiative Walmart opens the door to thousands of other brands that are still afraid to enter this new universe.<\/p>\n<p>As marketers, we must always be open to testing new media and take a test-and-learn approach to these new experiments.
