The Charleston Battery defeated the Syracuse Salty Dogs tonight (Saturday, June 28, 2003) by a score of two goals to one at Blackbaud Stadium in front of 4,450. Midfielder, Ted Chronopoulos scored both Battery goals as Charleston improved to 10-2-2, 32 points good for 1st place in the Southeast Division. Syracuse drops to 6-5-2, 20 points and remains in 3rd place in the Northeast Division.

Ted Chronopoulos opened the scoring for Charleston in the 9th minute. Forward Josh Henderson played the ball out to him on the left flank. He whipped the ball across and it spun over goalkeeper, Paul Nagy’s head and into the goal.

Two minutes later he doubled the lead. Again it was Henderson who played him through with a sharp header down at the top of the 18-yard box. He ran onto the pass and hit a bullet-shot past Nagy into the bottom right-hand corner.

In the 23rd minute Syracuse midfielder, Neto, broke free and ran onto goal. Battery goalkeeper, Dusty Hudock charged off his line and smothered the shot with a diving save.

In the 42nd minute Syracuse pulled a goal back. Midfielder, Shawn Tsakiris sent in a curling free-kick from the left flank. Midfielder Rene Rivas met the cross and snapped a header down and into the goal.

In the second half the Battery had several more good chances to score. Josh Henderson and Ted Chronopoulos were both denied by Nagy in one-on-one situations.

In the 89th minute, Dusty Hudock made a vital, smothering save as Neto again made a run through on goal.
