The Charleston Battery defeated the Toronto Lynx by a score of one goal to none tonight (Saturday, July 12, 2003) at Blackbaud Stadium in front of 3,035. Ted Chronopoulos scored the lone goal as the Battery improved to 12-3-3, 39 points, good for first place in the Southeast Division. The Lynx drop to 6-9-3, 21 points, third place in the Northeast Division.

Toronto had the first chance of the match in the 8th minute. Midfielder, David Diplacido received the ball at the edge of the area but his shot flashed wide of the goal.

In the 16th minute Lynx midfielder Nikki Vignevic received a cross at the edge of the box. He hit the ball on the full-volley but it flew straight at Battery goalkeeper, Dusty Hudock who pulled it to his chest for the save.

In the 18th minute Charleston scored what would prove to be the deciding goal. Midfielder, Ted Chronopoulos played the ball to Josh Henderson at the edge of the penalty-area. Henderson stopped the ball allowing Chronopoulos to run on and carry the ball into the box. As Toronto goalkeeper, Theo Zagar approached, Chronopoulos tucked it past him with a right-footed shot.

In the 56th minute Battery defender Mark Watson was denied by Zagar who tipped a powerful header onto the near-post after Chris Goos had sent in a curling corner-kick.

Hudock was called into action again in the 73rd minute as Lynx striker, Sebastian Barclay broke through on the right-side. Hudock charged out to meet him, smothering the shot away for a corner.
