Charlotte won the game on a Lee Paul golden-goal in the 91st minute. The Battery drops to 6-2-2, 20 points, the Eagles improve to 2-5-5, 11 points. |
Charleston took the lead in the 18th minute. Midfielder, Chris Goos whipped in a free-kick from the far flank. The ball spun across the middle and as it dropped at the edge of the 6-yard box, midfielder, Ted Chronopoulos dove in and headed it home. It was Chronopoulos’s second goal of the season. |
Charlotte scored the equalizer in the 67th minute from the penalty spot after Battery forward, Josh Henderson was adjudged to have fouled a Charlotte player in the box. Andy McDermott converted the spot-kick, driving the ball past a diving Dust Hudock. |
Despite outshooting Charlotte 17-8 the Battery could not convert its numerical advantage. Chronopoulos’s shot in injury time almost won the match for the Battery but it was scrambled off the goal-line. |
