Today we will take a look at some cases (and rules) of subject-verb agreement.

1. When using each, every, or none, the verb will always be in the singular form.

  • Example: Each of the representatives has been selected personally by the president.”

2. When using neither…nor, either…or, or not only…but also, the verb agrees with the noun closest to it.

  • Example: Neither the Senators nor our State Representative wants to approve the bill.”

3. With quantifiers, the verb agrees with the noun in the prepositional phrase.

  • Example: Many of the member states of the UN have declared their full support for the UNSC resolution.”
