The state of democracy in the world is complex and varied, with different countries and regions facing unique challenges and opportunities.

In recent years, there has been a rise in populist and nationalist movements around the world, which has led to concerns about the erosion of democratic norms and institutions.

Ultimately, the state of democracy in the world is shaped by a complex interplay of political, economic, social, and cultural factors, to make the classification, items such as freedom of the press, independence between powers and police repression are evaluated.

Some countries have robust democratic systems that are stable and well-functioning, while others face significant challenges, such as authoritarianism, corruption, and human rights abuses.

Global levels of democracy are at their lowest since the 80s, in terms of population, 72% of the globe now lives in non-democratic countries!!

In definition, the number of full democracies dropped from a peak of 44 in 2009 to 32 last year.

Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has posed new challenges to democratic systems, with many governments implementing emergency measures that have limited civil liberties and human rights:the number of dictatorships rose from 22 in 2012 to 33 in 2022!!!!

While there are certainly challenges and issues facing democratic systems in many countries, it's important to remember that democracy is a constantly evolving system that requires ongoing attention and effort to maintain.

Today, 84 of 195 countries are Free. Over the past 50 years, consolidated democracies have not only emerged from deeply repressive environments but also proven to be remarkably resilient in the face of new challenges.

In the report, France, Germany and Nordic countries are cited as full democracies. Dictatorships include Nicaragua, China and North Korea. Hungary and Poland were cited as electoral autocracies and Brazil and South Africa as failed democracies.
